Welcome the Villa’s beautiful, new Blüthner piano in the grand salon of the Villa Aurora with Piano Spheres’ Vicki Ray and Aron Kallay who debut this spectacular instrument, provided by the Kasimoff-Blüthner Piano Company in Hollywood! Co-presented by the Villa Aurora and Piano Spheres.

A reception provided by the Villa follows the program.

Charles Ives: Three Quarter-Tone Pieces for two pianos
Arnold Schoenberg: Drei Klavierstücke, Op. 11
Hanns Eisler: Three Songs from Hollywood Elegies
John Corigliano: Chiaroscuro
Chinary Ung: Seven Mirrors
Clarence Barlow: Für Luise

“The Schoenberg, Eisler and Ung were written by ex-pats who came to the US during times of great crisis in their home countries. We picked the Ives and Corigliano for their rich harmonies and intriguing textures – to show off the new piano! The Barlow and Eisler are also great fun and add a certain wry humor to the evening…!”
(Vicki and Aron)

During the 1940s, their gracious home overlooking the Pacific was the site of many a salon evening frequented by the emigré community of composers, writers, artists, and musicians. Today the Villa Aurora honors the artistic history of the Villa as a retreat and performance center for artists and intellectuals from around the world to work in an environment free of the concerns of everyday life.
